Triggertrap: nine ways to activate your DSLR with an iOS device, choose one

triggertrap-remote-activated-dslr-iOS-app

When we first heard about the Kickstarter-funded Triggertrap, it was a nice but nichey lab instrument of a device that could fire your DSLR with diverse stimuli, like lights or ringing phones. It wasn't the first photo-tripping idea we'd seen, but at least it could be had for a fair sum ($75.00) and be used out of the box. But now, by connecting that tech to an app and charging $19.98 for both the software and hardware, Triggertrap might open up remote snapping to a lot more folks.

Running off any iPhone, iPad or iPod using iOS 5, the app uses a dongle which can be connected by cable or infrared to most DSLRs or advanced compacts. From there, you'll be able to use all of your iDevice's sensors as triggers, from motion through to facial recognition and even GPS. The app doesn't just fire the shutter, either -- it also gives you control over the focus and flash. And if you don't have a separate camera, the iPhone's built-in cam can be used instead -- which would save you from buying the $9.99 dongle, if you have the necessary accoutrements. So if you've been wondering how to get those hard-to-shoot images, or have more nefarious ideas, check the videos after the break.

NVIDIA unleashes GeForce GTX 690 graphics card, loads it with dual Kepler GPUs, charges $1k

ImageWould you look at that? NVIDIA hinted it would be coming today, and it looks like the tease is living up to the hype. The company stormed into the weekend at its Shanghai Game Festival by unleashing its latest offering, the GeForce GTX 690 -- and oh yeah, it's packing two 28nm Kepler GPUs! Trumping the recently released GTX 680 as the "worlds fastest graphics card," it's loaded with a whopping 3,072 Cuda cores. The outer frame is made from trivalent chromium-plated aluminum, while you'll find thixomolded magnesium alloy around the fan for vibration reduction and added cooling. Aiding in cooling even further, the unit also sports a dual vapor chamber and center-mounted fan. It'll cost you a spendy $1,000 to pick up one of these puppies come May 3rd, and you'll likely be tempted to double up -- two can run together in SLI as an effective quad-core card. With that said, NVIDIA claims that a single 690 runs 4dB quieter and handles about twice the framerate as a duo of GTX 680s in SLI -- impressive, but we'll reserve judgement until we see it for ourselves. Check out the press release after the break if you'd like more information in the meantime (...and yes, it runs Crysis -- 2 Ultra to be exact -- at 57.8fps, according to NVIDIA).

How to Make Your Own Beats By Dre Headphones (Except They'll Actually Sound Good) [Video]

So Beats By Dre headphones sound kind of terrible. Minus "kind of." But they sure are pretty. Film maker and Renaissance man Casey Neistat took it upon himself to turn an actually decent set of cans into beautiful black and red doppelgangers. And he made a how to video. More »

Sarah Silverman Slams The Bachelor as Offensive, Degrading

Outspoken comedian Sarah Silverman has harsh words for women to choose to compete on The Bachelor, calling the enterprise "offensive" and degrading.

While being interviewed on the debut episode of Amanda de Cadenet's The Conversation Thursday night, the conversation turned to the ABC reality show.

She is not a fan.

"I'll tell you what's offensive about these shows... that are on ABC during prime time," she said. "Twenty-five women in JCPenney prom dresses, fully grown, going, 'He took us to a castle!' No he didn't. Producers procured a castle."

"And there's 25 of you, that's how special you aren't," she added.

Silverman, who recently sparked controversy with this abortion tweet, says that the real problem with the show is not that adults watch and make fun of it, but that young, impressionable girls think what they're seeing is worth emulating.

"I think, 'Wow, some young girl is watching this, and there should be a warning saying this is not acceptable behavior.' The biggest thing that a woman should realize is that there is not just one slot for a woman in any given thing."

"I think that's something that society, men and women both, have enforced. It's in the ether that one woman's success can only come at another's failure."

In this case, Courtney Robertson WINNING every time another girl fails to secure a rose, taunting them to their faces or in the confessional afterwards.

No word if Sarah feels the circumstances are on the same, degrading level on The Bachelorette, in which 25 dudes pine for the love of one lovely lady.

Speaking of which, check out The Bachelorette spoilers page for all the dish on the new season, starring Emily Maynard and premiering Monday, May 14.

It may be offensively bad TV, and Sarah Silverman makes good points, but if you know that going in, you can still watch - and ridicule - it all summer long.

Fanatec's Clubsport pedals V2 bring improved brake and clutch feel to the virtual speedway (video)

Fanatec's Clubsport pedals V2 bring improved brake and clutch feel to the virtual speedway (video)

Around these parts, we're generally suckers for all things related to racing simulators. As such, we're excited to learn that Fanatec has unveiled its next generation of the Clubsport pedals that we reviewed over a year ago. Dubbed as the Clubsport pedals V2, the company refers to the peripheral as an "evolutionary" update to original, offering a trio of improvements. The clutch has been retooled to have a "regressive feel" that's said to be similar to a real automobile, while the brake is now of the hydraulic variety, featuring user replaceable synthetic oil -- naturally, it still has an adjustable spring and load cell pressure sensor for the utmost customizability. The final touch is merely some visual spice in the way of black anodization. Notably, there won't be any tuning kit available initially, and V1 owners might be disappointed to know that the company has opted not to offer an upgrade kit, citing costs and potentially complicated installation. Fanatec is aiming to have the Clubsport pedals V2 out by June, bundled alongside its Clubsport wheel, with pricing set at $250 for the US (€250 in the UK). Pre-orders won't begin until May, so in the meantime, shift over to the source link below and the video past the break for all the details.
